Rachel Knowles has a vast understanding of the training landscape, with seven years’ experience working across a number of different roles at another training provider prior to joining MTC Training. Her role as Business Development Coordinator puts her at the heart of our commercial course offering, where she can use this extensive knowledge to help our customers understand their skills needs and achieve their training goals.
In this chat, she tells us about her role, why MTC Training differs from other training centres, and welcomes a chat with anyone interested in MTC Training’s apprenticeships or commercial courses.
What is your role at MTC Training?
My role within MTC Training as a Business Development Coordinator is to focus on supporting several areas within the Business Development team, particularly lead generation for candidates for apprenticeships and commercial courses. I create new processes and smooth out existing ones to ensure we’re working as effectively as possible with clients, as well as engaging with our existing and prospect clients. Complimentary to this, I help translate our offering to support marketing with campaigns, helping customers understand our offering.
What do you enjoy most about your role / working at MTC Training?
MTC Training gives you the support to go after your ambitions. The team is very supportive and always willing to help where needed. One of the benefits of my role is the opportunity it gives me to build relationships with different stakeholders around the business.
Why is MTC Training so important for local businesses?
As an Engineering and Manufacturing training provider, we like to support and work with local businesses to bridge the skills gap within the sector. Local businesses are a fundamental contribution towards our end goal, which is to close the skills gap and create a strong pipeline of next generation engineers in the localities and nationally.
How is MTC Training different from other training centres / providers?
MTC Training thrive working towards the RIGHT way behaviours, encouraging apprentices to adopt our values of taking responsibility, being inspirational and inspired, cultivating a great environment to work and learn, acting with honesty and integrity, and teamworking. Its also clear that we work hard to continue to engage with our employers and apprentices to maintain the right relationships.
In your opinion, what are the benefits of choosing an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships can open your eyes to the career opportunities that can be explored at a company. It gives you the fundamental skills and knowledge to embark on future prospects where you can gain experience from practical elements, as well as studying towards qualifications and earning as you learn.
Why is it important to upskill throughout your career?
It’s only natural that as technology progresses, we can suddenly feel behind the curve or out of our depth. That’s where upskilling comes in. It plays vital part within engineering and manufacturing where innovation is constantly changing the way we work and the way of the world! Updating your skills helps you to improve your knowledge, increase your competency and ultimately give you confidence in your job roll.
Not to mention, while you bring new skills to the table, your company will immediately see the benefits within your work, so upskilling is a real win-win situation. It’s something I have a real passion for having worked in the commercial courses team at my previous role – that was my core focus.
