Meet the Team: Charlotte Bench

Business Development Executive, Charlotte Bench has a wealth of experience in the education sector and is now supporting MTC Training at a crucial time as it aims for a record number of apprentices again in 2024. Charlotte’s experience in apprenticeships has enabled her to see the benefits of apprenticeships first-hand, which has only spurred her on to support more businesses in realising the benefits of apprenticeships.

In this chat, she tells us about her role in supporting our Coventry and Oxford locations to strengthen client partnerships and why MTC Training is the place for anyone wanting to step into the world of engineering!

What is your role at MTC Training?

I joined MTC in November 2023 as Business Development Executive for the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre (AMTC) in Coventry and Oxford Advanced Skills (OAS) in Oxford. Working across both sites, my primary role is to build new client relationships and maintain relationships with existing key employer partners, but I also assist with onboarding apprentices and supporting our partners find the right commercial training. I have eight years work experience in the education sector and three years in apprenticeships, so I’m really looking forward to seeing how I can help MTC Training grow and improve relationships moving forward.

What do you enjoy most about your role / working at MTC Training?

The best things for me are meeting new people and helping SME’s and Levy employers understand how they can utilise the apprenticeship scheme to their advantage and build a strong, loyal work force in the long run. MTC is a flexible, modern, future thinking company which is reflective of the staff members across the company. Not only that but I’m delighted that the MTC is enabling me to further my knowledge and skills by facilitating my own apprenticeship.

Why is MTC Training so important for local businesses?

The UK has an ever-growing skill gap in the manufacturing industry which has been ongoing for the past ten years and we’re here to help businesses navigate that skills gap by training the next generation of engineers alongside those who already have the skills. This is true both locally and nationally.

Apprenticeships have so many benefits for both the learner and the employer. When choosing the apprenticeship path, in addition to the foundational knowledge the learners acquire in the training centre businesses, businesses can shape and mould the apprentice to their unique standards and have them learn how to do things in a way which benefits the company best.

How is MTC Training different from other training centres / providers?

At MTC Training, across all three of our sites, we ensure that our learners are exposed to the new ways of working that will help their employers to accelerate innovation within the industrial setting. Our class intakes are smaller offering more 1-1 support with learners when required. With our new block release model, learners will be able to go back into industry sooner and work closely with their employers, applying each new skill they have covered as they work towards completing their apprenticeship.

Why should someone choose to study with MTC Training?

We work with a range of amazing manufacturing companies that recruit regularly for new apprentices. During your time with us, from day one you will begin to grow professionally, academically and personally. You’ll have an opportunity to meet and work with some brilliant trainers, mentors and peers. The apprenticeship route offers you a chance to earn while you learn and ultimately gain a much better understanding of the industry ahead of those still in fulltime education. It’s a win-win!
