At the MTC we pride ourselves on supporting our apprentices’ learning and development beyond the workshop and the classroom.
So at the start of the academic year we introduced Flight Deck, a new programme designed to encourage autonomy, independence and responsibility amongst our cohort. Flight Deck allocates apprentices into self-managed teams with Champions who are responsible for the team’s performance across a set of agreed measures such as attendance, work completion and hitting deadlines.
Each Flight Deck team also selects a charity to support, with time set aside each week for work in the community or fundraising activities.

It generates a team ethic and encourages us to work with and support each other to develop the wider skills that will be important once we’re in the workplace. The competitive element is good fun and it’s definitely brought us all closer together!”
